This article will walk you through how to calculate deadlines in LawToolBox.


When creating a matter in LawToolBox you are prompted to select your State and Jurisdiction for your case. 


Once you have selected your state and rule set, LawToolBox will calculate or add deadlines for that specific jurisdiction.


Tip: Wrong jurisdiction or change of venue?


To start calculating, click "+Calculate" or "Calculate Deadlines"

To add a miscellaneous appointment click "+Deadline" or "Add deadline or Appt"


LawToolBox calculated events allow you to review the deadlines before adding them to the calendar. 

Make sure to click sync to push to the outlook calendar.

How to choose your ruleset:

When you select your state, you will only see rules available for that state, including all rules available across the Country. See the complete list of published rules


Select State:

*pull-down lists are always type ahead


Select Rule:


Share your matter & start adding deadlines

If you made a mistake in your selection, or your jurisdiction changed, you can always click "Change ruleset"


How to calculate our deadlines:

Go to +Calculate in the top right 

Clcik on the matter name and go to Calculate Deadlines



Calculate will take you to this page to add a triggering event and the date of that event to run the calculation


Select a trigger date in the pull-down list to run your deadlines:

Note: Not sure what trigger date to select? See below for the 

Enter the Date 

and click Next:

Note: If you select a weekend or a holiday on this step, the deadlines will run from the date of entry


Now your deadlines have been calculated.

 

Review what LawToolBox has generated and make your final selection in the checkboxes.

Click sync to push those entries to the Outlook calendar for all shared users.


Success!

The green status bar will indicate that deadlines have been synced
