The purpose of this article is to walk you through the steps to edit the date, time, and location of the events on your Deadline Chart. Below you will see this article broken into sections to walk you through the different processes for the different types of events you will see while using LawToolBox.

We recommend watching this brief video for a definition of the event types, and for a demonstration of how we can edit our events.

Types of Events

All of your events will include a label on the right-hand side of the deadline chart, which indicate what type of event they are.

Event TypeDescriptionLabel
Trigger Dates

These  "are the key event we select when we are calculating our deadlines. These are the milestone events of our case and are what related deadlines are calculated off of.

Our Trigger Dates will only show the additional "Appointment" label if we add a start and end time, either during creation or after the fact using the process that will be outlined later in this article.

Deadlines
These  are added in two different ways. First, there are deadlines that are calculated based on the trigger we have selected, and who's due date is determined by the court authority of our selected ruleset.

The second method is manually adding deadlines using the "Plus Event" feature for our ad hoc deadlines.
Appointments
These  are events that include a time bound component. This means that anytime we add a start and end time to a Trigger Date or deadline, that event will be converted into an appointment.

Additionally, we create appointments by adding a start time to any of the ad hoc deadlines we create using the "plus event" feature of LawToolBox.

NOTE: Please see FAQ - Calendar - Deadline and event types for additional information on event types.

How to Change the Date of Your Trigger

  1. Open your Deadline Chart on LawToolBox.
  2. Navigate to your Trigger Date, either by scrolling through your list of events, or by making use of the Trigger Date event filter.
  3. Open the "Action Menu" by clicking on the ellipsis in the right hand corner of our trigger event and select "Recalculate."
  4. Open date dropdown and select the new date of your Trigger. Then click "Save and Next."
  5. This will return you to the Deadline Chart where you will see your Trigger reflecting the change of date, as well as changes to the dates of all related deadlines to correspond with the new date of their Trigger event.

How to Add a Start and End Time to your Trigger

  1. Open your Deadline Chart on LawToolBox.
  2. Navigate to your Trigger Date, either by scrolling through your list of events, or by making use of the Trigger Date event filter by opening your filters in the top left corner of your Deadline Chart.
  3. Open the "Action Menu" by clicking on the ellipsis in the right hand corner of our trigger event and select "Add Start Time."
  4. Input the start and end time of your event. The location will be a required field where you can add an address, room number, type "virtual" or "TBD." Any addition works, there just needs to be something input in this field.
  5. Once you have finished your additions, including and links or notes you wish to add, click "Convert."
  6. You will be taken back to the Deadline Chart where you can see the "Appointment" label added to your Trigger event. Assuming the event was already synced to your calendar, the event will automatically be moved out of your all-day events, and show at the appropriate time on your calendar.

How to Edit the Date and Time of Deadlines & Appointments

  1. Open your Deadline Chart on LawToolBox.
  2. Navigate to the event you wish to edit on the Deadline Chart and open the "Action Menu" by clicking on the ellipsis in the right-hand corner of the event. Select "Edit Entry."
  3. The following screen will allow you to change the date of your deadline or appoint, and add a specific start and end time if we change this from an all day event.
  4. If we do add a start time, the location does then become a required field. Here you can type the specific address, room, or type something to the effect of "virtual" or TBD.
  5. Below your location you have the options to add links, labels, or notes to the event. Just below those options, we can see the description of the event, which can be edited or added to.
  6. Once you have finished the edits and additions to your event, click "Update" to return to the Deadline Chart. You can see all of your changes to your event, and the calendar event itself will be automatically updated as long as the event was previously synced.

Additional Notes

  • Keep in mind, we can add specific start times to our triggers during the original calculation step.
    • We simply need to use the All Day toggle in the bottom, left-hand corner of the window when we are selecting the trigger and the date.
  • Deadlines can be manually added using either the +Event button at the top of your screen, or by selecting the "Add Deadline or Appt" option in the matter menu.
  • Our triggers and deadlines are set to an all day event by default, meaning they will not block out availability on your calendar. Adding specific start and end times will not only move the event out of your all day events, but will block your calendar for that specified period of time.
